Eagles Earn a Big 3 Points against Rochester

Charlotte NC - The Charlotte Eagles faced off against the Rochester Rhinos this Saturday August 16th and took a much needed 3 points in a 3-1 victory.
The first 15 minutes started with the teams keeping equal possession and creating some quality chances. It looked as if Rochester was going to strike first when a Levi Houapeu cross in the 13th minute forced Charlotte goalkeeper Alec Kann into a one handed punch to keep it out of Charlotte's net.
Right around the half hour mark, an Eagles throw-in was handled in the Rochester box by Kyle Hoffer resulting in an Eagles penalty kick. Jorge Herrera took the kick and sent the Rhinos goalkeeper, Luis Soffner, the wrong way putting the hosts up 1-0.
Alec Kann continued to be a difference maker in the game and made a number of big saves on some quality Rochester chances. JJ Greer's far post header, in the 64th minute, almost widened the gap to put the Eagles up 2-0 but it was saved off the line by a Rochester defender.
The Eagles widened the gap in the 82nd minute when Ben Newnam took a through ball and Zak Boggs just got a foot on it pushing it just past the hands of Soffner and putting the Eagles up 2-0.
Not even five minutes later the Rhinos got on the board when they got a free kick and Jonny Mendoza swung in a dangerous ball to Onua Obasi. Kann came out to challenge but it went just over his hands bringing the gap back down to 1.
The lead increased to two goals again when Zak Boggs tallied his second goal of the night off a pass from Drew Yates making the score 3-1 in the 89th minute. The assist was Yates 8th of the season putting him in first place in the league for assist's leaders.
