April 19, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Eagles News Release
Charlotte, NC -- The Charlotte Eagles and the Rochester Rhinos would play to a scoreless draw in a steady downpour at Queens Sports Complex tonight.
The Rhinos would enjoy some good possession in the first 20 minutes but goalkeeper Eric Reed would turn them aside each time. Nate Thornton forced a diving stop by Rhino goalkeeper Kristian Nicht but neither team could breakthrough early on.
The Eagles would have two chances in the 30th as a shot from Stephen Okai traveled just wide of the post after being deflected by Nicht. On the ensuing corner Shaun Francis would send a header just wide of the post.
The teams would head to the break with the Eagles and Rhinos scoreless as the rain would continue to come down.
The 2nd half would start much like the 1st half did with both teams exchanging possession under a steady rain. Both teams would exchanges shots off of corner kicks in the 2nd half but neither team would be able to find a breakthrough as the game would end in a scoreless draw.
"I felt like we had better possession in the second half but we couldn't quite get that final ball to click for us," said Head Coach Mark Steffens after the game "It was kind of a box to box game where there weren't a lot of opportunities for either team."
The Eagles remain undefeated early in the 2013 USL PRO Season.
The team's would combine for only 15 shots, but would nearly double that in number of fouls committed with 28.
Tonight's attendance was 332.
The Eagles next game will be Tuesday, April 23rd against Orlando City SC here at Queens Sports Complex at 7 pm.
