Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Tuesday, September 15, 2009) - The Houston Dynamo have acquired forward Abe Thompson and allocation money from the Kansas City Wizards in exchange for forward Kei Kamara, it was announced today.
Kamara had joined the Dynamo in July 2008 via trade with the San Jose Earthquakes. During his stint with the Dynamo, the Sierra Leone native played 32 MLS games (26 starts), scoring seven goals and distributing three assists in that span.
"We would like to thank Kei for his contributions to the Dynamo, both in 2008 and this year. We feel this is a good move that will help our team remain competitive for the remainder of this season and beyond," said Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti.
Thompson played eight games for the Wizards in 2009, one of them as a starter. Throughout his career, which includes a three-and-a-half season stint with FC Dallas, Thompson has scored 14 goals and notched 12 assists in 85 games played. As a collegiate player at the University of Maryland, Thompson scored 43 career goals and added 26 assists. He is expected to be available for selection this Saturday, as the Dynamo take on Real Salt Lake at Robertson Stadium. Kickoff for this match is slated for 7:30 p.m. (TV: KHOU 11.2, Fox Sports Houston, TV Informa 43; Radio: La Ranchera 850 AM).
