Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) in conjunction with the Western Hockey League announced today that goaltender Dustin Wolf has been named WHL Western Conference Scholastic Player of the Year. Wolf is a finalist for the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Memorial Trophy as the WHL's Scholastic Player of the Year, along with Jakob Brook of the Prince Albert Raiders (Eastern Conference recipient). The award will be presented on Wednesday, May 1 at the WHL Awards ceremony in Red Deer, Alberta.

The award is presented annually to the WHL's Scholastic Player of the Year and recognizes a player who has demonstrated academic excellence while competing in the WHL. In 1996, the Scholastic Player of the Year Trophy was named in honor of Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman, a pioneer in promoting higher education and hockey as well as a leading supporter of the WHL's education and scholarship programs.

"Dustin is very dedicated and driven to graduate with a 4.0 GPA," said Darren Parsons, Education Coordinator for the Silvertips. "He is very mature, reliable, and very organized. He has done an excellent job with combining the rigors of hockey to his high educational demands."

Wolf, 17, enjoyed a career year in just his second WHL season, registering a record of 41-15-2-2 with a 1.69 goals-against average, .936 save percentage and seven shutouts in a career high 61 appearances. He has earned WHL Goaltender of the Week honors six times this season, set a new Silvertips single season record in wins (41), posted the second highest save percentage in the franchise's single season history, the second lowest goals-against-average in franchise history - and fourth lowest in WHL history.

The product of Tustin, Calif., excelled in the classroom as well, maintaining a 100 percent average for the current academic year, as well as an overall average of 98.8 percent for his high school years. In Grade 12 courses, Wolf achieved perfect grades in English 12, Statistics, Economics, and American Government.

Ranked among North American goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting for the 2019 NHL Draft, Wolf was originally selected by the Silvertips in the fifth round (104th overall) at the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

In August 2018, Wolf represented USA Hockey at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Wolf is the third Silvertip in the last four seasons to earn the Western Conference award for Scholastic Player of the Year, joining forward Brian King (2016-17) and defenseman Tristen Pfeifer (2015-16).

The Silvertips, seven-time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, return to play for Game 4 of the second round of the WHL Playoffs in Spokane tomorrow, 7:05 p.m. (KRKO / TuneIn / WHL Live).
