Amarillo Venom News Release

AMARILLO, Texas - The Amarillo Dusters hosted the Lubbock Renegades for the final home game of the 2008 season in front of a crowd of 3,161. The Dusters dedicated the game to fallen teammate, Donte Newsome. The game would determine playoff hopes for the Dusters. Amarillo would claim the victory with a final score of 42-35. The Renegades started the scoring with a 19-yard pass from QB Robert Kent to WR Alvance Robinson. Amarillo answered quickly with a one yd touchdown run by WR Craig Fulton, Jr. The rivalry between the two teams was evident from the start as Lubbock answered right back with another six points. Dusters WR Jim Lukowiak caught a diving 18-yard touchdown pass from Julian Reese over the wall to tie the game at 14 apiece in the first quarter.

The Dusters started the second quarter with a huge fumble recovery near the goal line that resulted in a 6-yard touchdown pass from QB Julian Reese to Wallace House. A couple of Renegades penalties and a defensive stop created a fourth down and 18 attempt for Lubbock, but the Dusters couldn't stop the Renegades offense. The next play resulted in a Renegades touchdown to once again tie the game. An offensive pass interference prevented the Dusters from putting six more points on the board and the Renegades got the ball back after a failed Dusters field goal attempt. The Dusters defense deflected two passes to hold the Renegades to another fourth down attempt. Dusters DB Terick Thomas deflected the pass on the attempt to give the ball back to Amarillo with 14 seconds left in the quarter. The game would remain tied going into halftime at 21-21.

The Renegades started the scoring in the second half with a 20-yard pass from QB Robert Kent to WR Alvance Robinson. Jim Lukowiak caught a 10- yard pass from Julian Reese to keep the game tied. Both teams ran into a string of penalties including a personal foul on the Renegades followed immediately by a facemask on the Dusters. The drive would end with another Renegades touchdown. The Dusters offense struggled in the third, while the Dusters defense was able to keep the Renegades from running away with the score.

The Dusters would go on to score twice more in the fourth quarter while keeping the Renegades scoreless to win the game 42-35. Renegades WR Alvance Robinson received the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game with his 12 catches for three touchdowns. JLS Ironman of the Game was Julian Reese for his performance on both offense and defense. He caught an interception in the endzone in the fourth quarter to set up the Dusters final offensive drive. Amarillo's Terick Thomas received the ADT Defensive Player of the Game and Jim Lukowiak picked up the Cutter's Catch of the game. This was the Dusters final home game for the 2008 season. The Dusters will face the Yard Dawgz in Oklahoma City on Saturday, July 26 for the last regular season game. 2009 season tickets are on sale now.
