Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
PASCO, WA ââ The Tri-City Dust Devils enter the All-Star break on a high note after taking four of five games from the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Northwest League action. With the win Monday night the Devils (26-19) are now two games ahead of second place Spokane (24-21) and have the best record in the league.
The Devils travel to Spokane to take on the Indians on Thursday in a three game series. Eight Devils (Jim Miller, Matt Miller, Matt Macri, Juan Morillo, Tomas Santiago, Jarrett Grube, Jud Thigpen and Erik Dean) will make the trip Tuesday to participate in the All-Star Game festivities which begin at 5:00 PM with the Spokesman-Review Home Run Derby featuring Matt Miller. The game is to follow at 7:00 PM.
TC's Jake Postlewait (1-3, 6.31 ERA), the Rockies seventh round selection in this year's draft finally got the monkey off his back and earned his first victory of the season Monday. Postlewait pitched five innings, allowed four hits and two earned runs.
The Tri-City bullpen continues to be a major story of dominance. In their last 35.0 innings pitched, the Devil relievers have only allowed three earned runs (0.77 ERA). They allowed only one run in this five game series with Salem-Keizer and it was a run that was scored in the top of ninth inning in game three when the Volcanoes won 11-6. All-Star Tomas Santiago who has missed three starts due to a hamstring pull, pitched an inning of relief tonight and allowed only one hit. He is scheduled to re-join the rotation on Thursday (8/5) against Spokane.
Erik Dean, who was named to the All-Star team today as a replacement for injured teammate Jud Thigpen, extended his consecutive game hitting streak to 10 games with a sharp single to right in the first inning. Thigpen rolled his ankle in Sunday's game and will be held out for pre-cautionary reasons. He is expected to play in the Spokane series which begins Thursday. Stephen Ghutzman led the Devils Monday night going 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and two walks.
The Volcanoes (22-23) got a double from 3B Simon Klink in the game and remain three games back of the Everett AquaSox (25-20) in the West Division.
