Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

Joe Dusan led off the ninth inning with a solo homer and Thad Markray threw a complete-game five-hit shutout as Shreveport edged Fort Worth 1-0 Monday night at LaGrave Field.

The crowd of 4,121 in Fort Worth saw a scoreless game through eight innings as Markray (7-1) and Cats' starter Shad Williams exchanged zeroes.

The only scoring in the game came in the ninth inning when Dusan belted a homer to the seats in left for his second home run of the season. It was the only run Williams (3-3) allowed in the game as he went eight innings and permitted nine hits.

Markray dominated the Cats throughout the game en route to his league-leading fourth complete game. Markray struck out a season-high 13 batters and walked just one as he blanked the Cats.

Fort Worth nearly took the lead in the eighth inning when Tim Hartshorn delivered a two-out single to right. Cats' third baseman Jeremy Smith, who had three hits in the game, tried to score from second but was cut down at home plate.

After the Dusan homer, Markray retired the Cats in order in the ninth to complete the 1-0 whitewash.

With the win, the Sports move into sole possession of first place, one-half game ahead of Pensacola in the East. The Cats fall 1 ½ games behind Shreveport with five games remaining in the season's first half.

With the series even at two games a piece, the Cats and Sports wrap up the five-game set on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Angel Aragon makes his second start of the series and he will be opposed by left-hander Keith Black for Shreveport.
