Dupaco Cowbell Cup Series Grows
September 11, 2019 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The Dupaco Cowbell Cup Series will be bigger than ever during the 2019/20 season, as the Waterloo Black Hawks, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, and Dubuque Fighting Saints announced on Wednesday.
This season, the three teams will each host eight home games counting toward the title. The new schedule is an increase from 2018/19 when each club played six home games in the series. Also, for the first time, every game pitting the Hawks against the RoughRiders or Fighting Saints - plus Dubuque versus Cedar Rapids - will factor into awarding the trophy which represents success in the head-to-head matchups between northeast Iowa's USHL teams. In prior seasons, an unbalanced schedule has meant some pre-designated meetings between the teams were not counted.
Dupaco Community Credit Union has been the title sponsor of the Cowbell Cup series 2015/16 season. With offices located in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, and other communities in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, Dupaco helps to improve the financial lives of its member-owners while making a positive difference in the places it serves.
"As the presenting sponsor of the Dupaco Cowbell Cup series, we're supporting three of the communities in which we have a strong presence of Dupaco Credit Union members," said Joe Hearn, President and CEO, Dupaco Community Credit Union. "Supporting community events and bringing value to our members are both important Dupaco initiatives. This partnership allows us to help provide excellent family-friendly events to our members and the community at large."
The Black Hawks have won the Dupaco Cowbell Cup for an unprecedented three consecutive seasons. Waterloo was 8-3-1 during the series last winter, edging the RoughRiders by two points. Since the Cowbell Cup was created in 2011/12, the Hawks have held the trophy four times.
Points for the Dupaco Cowbell Cup will be awarded based head-to-head results (a complete schedule of Dupaco Cowbell Cup games appears below): two for a win and one for an overtime or shootout loss. The first game during the series will be when Waterloo visits Cedar Rapids on Saturday, October 5th, while the first matchup at Young Arena is scheduled against Dubuque on Friday, November 22nd.
Tickets are on sale now for all games on the 2019/20 Black Hawks home schedule. Season tickets, half-season plans, and Seven Game Voucher Packs are also available; for more details, call the Black Hawks at (319) 232-3444.
