Clearwater Threshers News Release

DUNEDIN, FL -- Pete Lavin turned in a three-hit performance for the Clearwater Threshers on Saturday night, but the Threshers could not contain the Blue Jay bats late in falling 8-2 at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin.

Lavin is now 5-for-11 for the Threshers this season, after collecting three hits - including a triple - in the Threshers' game-three loss to the Blue Jays. The center fielder also gunned down two base runners, nabbing Derrick Chung at the plate and Jorge Flores attempting to take third.

The Blue Jays came out swinging against Threshers righty Jon Prosinski (0-1), as the first four hitters all reached base to start the bottom of the first.

After Kevin Patterson's double made it 2-0, Prosinski induced a pair of pop-outs before walking Chung, and getting Emilio Guerrero to ground out to third to end the inning.

The Threshers answered with a pair of their own in the top of the third. With one down, Anthony Phillips battled his way to an eight-pitch walk, and Justin Parr followed with a double to left field to set up runners at second and third.

Casey Serna earned his first RBI of the season, bringing home Phillips with a groundout to short. Lavin then lined the first pitch he saw into centerfield for his second hit of the ballgame, bringing home Parr to tie the game at two.

Dunedin was quick to wrestle the lead back. In the bottom half, the Blue Jays placed a runner on second with two down, and Chung came through with a run-scoring double to center. The Blue Jays tacked on an unearned run in the fourth, with KC Hobson's RBI single making it 4-2.

Prosinski worked four innings in his Clearwater debut, and was charged with four runs - three earned - on nine hits and a walk.

The score held until the seventh, when the Blue Jays added a run against righty reliever Lee Ridenhour. Dunedin would break the game open one inning later when a Serna error was followed by three straight Blue Jays singles and, combined with a Patterson sacrifice fly, Dunedin managed to extend its lead to 8-2.

J.A. Happ (1-0) was credited with the win, as the lefty is with Dunedin on a Major League rehab assignment. Happ held Clearwater to two runs on three hits and a walk in his five innings.

The teams will wrap up the four-game set on Sunday at Bright House Field, with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on threshersbaseball.com beginning at 12:45 p.m.

Sunday is also Bark at the Ballpark Day, as fans can purchase a ticket for their dog for just five dollars, with proceeds going to the Humane Society of Pinellas. It will also be the return of Sunday Brunch at Bright House Field, with an $18 game day ticket allowing fans access to an all-you-can-eat brunch from 12 to 2 p.m.
