July 29, 2002 - Northern League (NL)
Duluth-Superior Dukes News Release

(Duluth, MN) Duluth-Superior Dukes field manager, Al Gallagher, announced the signing of IF Marco Estrada, earlier today. Estrada is expected to join the team in Fargo for tonight's game against the RedHawks.

Estrada, 25, was recently released by the Sioux Falls Canaries. He played 36 games at shortstop, while batting .129 with 2 doubles and 1 RBI.

The Mazatlan, Mexico native had his contract purchased in 1999 by the Seattle Mariners from the Madison BlackWolf of the Northern League. He went on to play 21 games in the Mariners system that season.

"Marco is a fine defensive back-up to [current shortstop] Leland Swenson," said Gallagher. "We have 25 games in 25 days and it is important for us to feel confident in being able to give our starters a day-off once in a while."

Estrada played for Gallagher in 1999 with the BlackWolf. Estrada hit .171 with 1 HR and 1 RBI that season, while committing no errors.
