Duluth-Superior Dukes News Release
(Duluth, MN) Duluth-Superior Dukes General Manager, Adam Ehlert, announced the signing of hitting coach, John Lane. Lane, a hitting coach with 13 years experience, is also an author who has written a book called "The Principles of Hitting."
Lane, 35, grew up in Laredo, Texas, and went on to play second base at Liberty University. An injury ended his rookie season in the Texas-Louisiana League, but Lane couldn't leave the game. He soon began coaching at a high school in Virginia. After coaching and teaching at high schools in Texas and North Carolina, Lane received a chance to join the Lafayette Bayou Bullfrogs of the Texas-Louisiana League as a hitting coach. Last season, he worked as the hitting coach for the Camden River Sharks of the Atlantic League.
As a newcomer to Duluth and the Northern League, Lane is looking forward to the people and the learning experience. "I'm excited to work with Al Gallagher (Dukes field manager) and the rest of the Dukes staff," said Lane. "You are never too old to stop learning and I know that Al has a lot to teach."
While Lane has never been to Duluth or Minnesota, he did say that he "grew up in the Texas heat, so I'm looking forward to being next to Lake Superior and doing some fishing."
Lane isn't the only one excited about him joining the Dukes. "John's enthusiasm for the game is what we've been looking for," said Gallagher. "He brings two years of professional coaching experience and we are proud to have him join the staff."
Lane currently resides in Landis, North Carolina with his wife Julie and children Ashley (8) and Kaitlin (6). He will trek north to Duluth for the summer on May 5.
