Ducks Waddle Off On Bees In 15 Innings

(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks (17-16) defeated the New Britain Bees (13-21) 4-2 in walk-off fashion in 15 innings at Bethpage Ballpark on Sunday afternoon to take the rubber game of a three-game weekend series between Liberty Division rivals.
New Britain starting pitcher Andy Van Hekken registered a no-decision after allowing just one run on five hits (one home run) in six innings pitched while striking out six and hitting a batter. Long Island starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens also did not factor in the game's final outcome after tossing six scoreless innings on one hit surrendered, walking two while striking out five and also hitting one batter.
Long Island took a 1-0 lead versus Van Hekken in the home half of the fourth inning when Taylor Ard cracked a leadoff solo home run to left, his first big fly of the season. The Bees tied the game at one in the top of the seventh when Ozney Guillen plated Matt Tuiasosopo with a two-out run-scoring base knock after Tuiasosopo began the frame with a single of his own. Guillen was at it once again in the top of the 14th when he began the inning with a double and hustled home all the way from second base on errors committed by Daniel Fields and Alec Sole, and in the blink of an eye New Britain was out in front 2-1. The Ducks answered right back against Sam Gervacio in the bottom of the 14th to knot the game up at two when Fields allowed David Washington to cross the plate with a two-out RBI single after Washington doubled also with two men down. In the bottom of the 15th, the two-out magic continued for the flock as Cody Puckett singled, and Lew Ford sent the Central Islip faithful home with smiles on their faces as he launched a two-run waddle-off home run to left after being down two strikes in the count, handing Josh Outman the loss (0-1) while making a winner out of John Brownell (3-4), who was making his first relief appearance in 2018 after being tagged with the loss as the Long Island starting pitcher on Friday evening. Despite the loss, the dynamic bullpen duo of Tyler Badamo and Evan Scribner both opened eyes in a major way as they combined to toss seven scoreless innings on just one hit allowed while striking out six. The Bees dropped to 3-1 in extra-inning ballgames on the campaign, while the Ducks improved to 1-2 as the matchup lasted a season-high four hours and twenty-six minutes. The Bees return to New Britain Stadium on Monday, June 4th when they welcome in the reigning Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Champion York Revolution for a four-game series.
