Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Central Islip, NY) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (11-22) were defeated by the Long Island Ducks (20-13) 10-9 at Bethpage Ballpark on Thursday night as the Flock takes the rubber game of the midweek series. Bridgeport finishes their six game road trip with a 2-4 record and now head back to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard where they will play 13 of their next 16 games.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jimmy Patterson registered a no decision, lasting four innings while allowing eight runs (six earned runs) on 11 hits, walking and striking out one and surrendering a home run. Long Island Starting Pitcher Darin Downs also did not factor in the game's final outcome after tossing just three and two thirds innings, giving up eight runs (six earned runs) on 11 hits, striking out four and giving up a home run. Eury De La Rosa (1-2) was victorious for the Ducks out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit in four batters faced. Scott Shuman (1-2) was tagged with the loss for Bridgeport after giving one run on two hits and striking out one in an inning of relief. Todd Coffey retired all three batters he faced in the top of the ninth inning to collect his sixth save of the season.

Long Island got out to an early 4-0 lead in the home half of the first inning off Patterson. Fehlandt Lentini launched a leadoff home run on the fourth pitch thrown on the evening by the southpaw, and that got the ball rolling for the Flock. Tyler Colvin drove home Dan Lyons with an RBI single, Mike Blanke drew a bases loaded walk, and Ruben Gotay finished off the rally with a sacrifice fly, and it was all smiles in the Ducks dugout early on. Bridgeport answered back with five runs in the top of the third inning as they batted around off Downs to take their first lead of the night at 5-4. Josh Vitters cut the deficit I half with a two run double, plating Luis Hernandez who singled and Jose Cuevas who doubled with one man out. Welington Dotel, last season's unanimous Atlantic League Player of the Year while also a member of the 'Fish, returned in style with an RBI single, scoring Vitters to make it 4-3 in favor of the Ducks. Jonathan Galvez followed with a two run home run to left field, his first big fly of the season, and just like that Bridgeport was on top. The Bluefish sent eight men to the plate in the top of the fourth inning and scored four more runs to take a commanding 9-4 lead at the time, their largest cushion of the night. With runners at the corners and nobody out, Cuevas lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Rossmel Perez who led off the frame with a single. Galvez made it nine unanswered runs for the 'Fish when he drove home Dotel with a double, the second of three extra base hits on the night for the slugger (a home run and two doubles).

Long Island would fight all the way back and score the final six runs of the game with two in the fourth and three in the fifth to tie the contest up at nine. After the faithful of the Flock stood up and stretched out their arms and legs, Long Island completed the wild comeback with a run off Shuman on an RBI double by Mike Dowd, his third hit and run batted in on the night. Amalio Diaz faced four batters in the eighth, striking out two, and Coffey retired the side in order in the ninth as the Ducks were able to hang on for the come from behind one run victory. Galvez led the way for Bridgeport with four hits. The Bluefish lost tonight's game but with Serv Pro IT'S LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED because of Serv Pro's amazing staff and attention to detail.
