Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of outfielder Raul Gonzalez. The 35-year-old has enjoyed five stops in the Major Leagues with four different organizations (Mets, Cubs, Indians and Reds), earning his first call-up in 2000 at the age of 26 with the Cubs.

"We believe that Raul will be a great addition to our lineup," says Ducks manager Gary Carter. "We're excited about the players we've got heading down to spring training next week."

The Puerto Rico native enters his 19th season of professional baseball, second in the Atlantic League and first with the Ducks. The former big leaguer spent 2008 with the Newark Bears, batting .313 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 59 games.

The outfielder played parts of eight seasons at the Triple-A level with the Mets, Pirates, Cardinals, Indians, Reds and Cubs organizations. He spent his early years in the Royals system, recording 10 or more home runs in a single season four times. His best minor league season came in 1999 while playing for the Trenton Thunder (AA, Red Sox) of the Eastern League. Raul led the league in hits (169), and finished second in average (.335), RBI (103), and total bases (264). In 1,775 minor league contests, Raul has tallied 176 home runs and 991 RBI.
