Ducks Capture Nightcap, 11-6, to Gain Split

Lancaster Stormers News Release

It was a night of polar opposites for the Long Island Ducks offense.

After John Anderson and the bullpen shut Long Island down on four hits in the opener of the Thursday doubleheader at Clipper Magazine Stadium, the Ducks banged out 18 in game two for an 11-6 victory over the Barnstormers and a doubleheader split.

Jordany Valdespin went 3-for-5 with three RBI, Taylor Ard was 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Lew Ford contributed a three-run homer to the Ducks onslaught, most of which came in a two-inning span.

The Barnstormers took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second. Ryan Casteel answered an RBI single by Valdespin with a homer into the Haller Pavilion to tie the score at 1-1. Two outs later, Trayvon Robinson walked and went to third when a fly ball by Anderson De La Rosa dropped in shallow center. Carlos Garcia singled into right to score Robinson, and Darian Sandford brought home two more with a double that split the gap in left center.

Long Island third baseman Taylor Arp doubled off the left field foul pole to produce a run in the top of the third, but Blake Gailen negated that with a one-out solo homer off Tyler Badamo (2-2, 4-6) in the bottom of the inning.

Then came the salvo.

Valdespin sliced a double over Robinson's head in left to score two runs before the first out in the fourth. Joe Gardner (3-7) got Emilo Bonifacio to ground to first, but Travis Snider walked adding another baserunner. Ford took Gardner onto the right field deck for a 7-5 Long Island lead.

The Ducks reloaded the bases off reliever Jared Lakind before Anthony Vega, the 11th batter of the inning struck out to end it.

The respite did not last long. The first five batters reached base off Stephen Johnson in the fifth with Snider and Ard knocking home runs. David Washington greeted Garrett Granitz with a sacrifice fly for a 10-5 lead, and Ramon Cabrera dropped an RBI single into right to drive home another. Daniel Fields loaded the bases with another single before Granitz could escape the inning.

Vladimir Frias singled home a run in the bottom of the seventh for Lancaster.

The Barnstormers open a three-game series against New Britain on Friday evening. Nate Reed (7-3) will take the hill for the Barnstormers against right-hander Devin Burke (2-0). The first 1,000 ladies 16 and over will receive pink baseballs. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Gailen's homer was his sixth against the Ducks this season...Hobson hit his 50th Barnstormers home run in the opener...Casteel's homer was his first since June 14...Right-hander Kaleb Fleck pitched a three-batter inning in his Lancaster debut...Huascar Brazoban hit 100 miles per hour on a pitch in the top of the seventh (as recorded on the Lancaster team gun).
