
Ducks announce Bob Ferguson as Assistant GM in Iowa

Bob Ferguson is coming back to Iowa. On the eve of the press conference that will announce the name, logo, and colors of the new American Hockey League team in Des Moines, Iowa, their NHL affiliate the Anaheim Ducks, announced today that former Des Moines Buccaneers and Sioux City Musketeers Head Coach and General Manager Bob Ferguson, has been named the new Assistant General Manager of the AHL team in Iowa.
"This opens a new and exciting chapter of my career and I am very thankful to the Anaheim Ducks organization for this opportunity," said Ferguson, who will be in attendance at Wednesday's press conference. "I look forward to helping put a quality product on the ice for the fans in Iowa, a place that has always been close to me and my family."
For the past three years, Ferguson has been the Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the Augusta (GA) Lynx in the ECHL. His 27-year coaching career has included a long and distinguished career in the United States Hockey League in the state of Iowa with Sioux City and Des Moines. During his nine-year tender in Sioux City, Ferguson led the Musketeers to three Clark Cup Championships. Ferguson then headed to Des Moines for his first of two stops with the Buccaneers, where during his first five seasons he led the Bucs to two Clark Cup titles. He returned to the Bucs from 2001-04, where he finished as the all-time leader in USHL coaching wins finishing with 517 career victories.
Ferguson spent nine years as a Head Coach in the professional ranks with the Indianapolis Ice in the then âAAA' International Hockey League, and the Florida Everblades and Augusta Lynx of the âAA' ECHL. In his nine seasons as a professional coach, Ferguson's teams never have missed the playoffs. Only four times in 27 years have his team's finished with a sub .500 record. Ferguson's honors and awards include: Five-time USHL Playoff Champion (Clark Cup), Five-time USHL Regular Season Champion (Anderson Cup),Three-time USA Hockey National Champion (Gold Cup), Five-time USHL Coach of the Year, Five-time USHL General Manager of the Year, the ACHA Kelley Award winner (Coaching Achievement), and two-time ECHL Coach of the Year.
The Iowa AHL Hockey team's 2008 season home opener will be Friday, October 10 at Wells Fargo Arena. The new team name, logo and colors will be announced on Wednesday, July 9th at 2:00pm at the Wells Fargo Arena.
