Duch, Scigliano, Steenhuis & Card Honored
April 25, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
Rhys Duch, Frankie Scigliano, Mark Steenhuis and Jay Card have won the National Lacrosse League's Player of the Week awards for Week 16.
Duch tied season highs with four goals, six assists and 10 points, and recorded five loose balls in Washington's 16-13 loss to Toronto last Friday. It's the second time Duch has received weekly offensive player honors this year.
Scigliano, a rookie netminder with Calgary, took Defensive Player of the Week honors. Making his second career NLL start in place of the injured Mike Poulin, Scigliano stopped 38 of 44 shots as the Roughnecks wrapped up their regular season with a 9-6 win over Edmonton on Saturday. The win clinched the West Division and top overall seed in the playoffs for the Roughnecks.
Steenhuis earned his second Transition Player of the Week award in 2012. He matched a season high with four goals and added four assists for a season-best eight points as Buffalo clinched a playoff spot with a 14-9 win over Rochester on Saturday.
Card is the latest Minnesota player named Rookie of the Week. He scored a goal and had three assists for a career high-tying four points, and collected four loose balls in a 15-10 win over Philadelphia on Saturday. The win help Minnesota eventually clinch the #3 seed in the West Division.
A third-round selection in 2011, Card is the third Swarm rookie to win the weekly award, joining Evan Kirk and Jordan MacIntosh.
The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
