Grand Rapids Drive News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, MICH - The Grand Rapids Drive has partnered with Meijer and Boys & Girls Club of Grand Rapids to host the first ever School Day Game on Wed. Mar. 2 at 11am as the Drive take on Rio Grande Valley at the DeltaPlex Arena.
"We are thrilled to partner with such a philanthropic staple in West Michigan in Meijer, and cannot wait to pack the Deltaplex with area students who maybe haven't had a chance to experience a Drive game. Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids was a natural fit in this partnership, especially with the youth development tie-in," said SVP of Business Operations for the Grand Rapids Drive Wes Weir.
The game will be host to 3,500 students from surrounding schools and will feature an anti-bullying theme. Players will wear custom designed home jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game with all proceeds benefitting the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids.
"The Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth is proud to partner with Meijer and the Grand Rapids Drive as we all take a moment to recognize the many accomplishments our students in the Grand Rapids area have achieved in their 2015-2016 school year," said Rick Huisman-Executive Director.
Additionally, on Monday, Feb. 29th the Drive will host an open meet-and-greet & autograph session with Drive players, coaches and team mascot Buckets. This event will take place from 5pm-8pm at Meijer on 5531 28th Street Southeast, Grand Rapids, MI 49512.
Meijer was built on a fundamental philosophy of supporting the communities where our customers and team members work and live," said Cathy Cooper, senior director of community partnerships and giving at Meijer. "We are pleased to support this worthwhile community event."
