Grand Rapids Drive News Release
UNIONDALE, NY - The Grand Rapids Drive (17-12) and the Long Island Nets (10-18) honored the late Kobe Bryant by taking 8-second and 24-second violations to start the game on Monday night, a day after the Laker legend's tragic passing. The Drive wasted no time directing the game to their pace, allowing Grand Rapids to cruise to a 135-117 victory on the road. The Drive grabbed their second straight win and fourth in their last five games.
Grand Rapids able to jump out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter and grew the margin to 21 at the midway break. A strong 36-21 third quarter had Grand Rapids up 105-69 heading into the fourth where they eventually finished with the 18-point win. The Drive had an impressive eight players finish in double figures, resulting in a number of diverse scoring attacks. Big man Adam Woodbury earned a team-high 26 points to go with 6 rebounds off the bench. Pistons two-way player Jordan Bone, after returning from a stint with the Pistons, added 19 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds. Todd Withers racked up 18 points and 7 rebounds off the bench and Donta Hall finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Tra-Deon Hollins secured his fifth double-double in his last six games, finishing with 10 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Other Drive players in double digits were Dakarai Allen (13 points & 5 assists), Craig Sword (13 points) and Khalil Iverson (10 points & 3 blocks).
Brooklyn Nets two-way player Jeremiah Martin led Long Island with 25 points and 2 steals on the night. Nets assignee Dzanan Musa followed up with 18 points and 2 steals while Justin Anderson added 15 points and 6 rebounds. Other Nets players in double figures were Jonathan Kasibabu (12 points & 5 rebounds), Nets assignee Theo Pinson (11 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds & 2 blocks) and Devin Cannady (11 points & 2 blocks).
The stats were fairly even across the board, largely due to the Net's ability to turn up the heat on both ends of the court in the fourth. Grand Rapids was able to maintain the lead by out-rebounding the Nets 44-35 and by taking control in the paint, resulting in the Drive converting on 64 points compared to 56 for the Nets. Additionally, the Drive were able to take advantage of second chance points by earning 13 points to just 6 for Long Island.
Long Island will face off with Capital City Go-Go in New York on Wednesday morning. The Drive will also be in action Wednesday morning as they'll head to their last stop on their four-game road trip by visiting the Raptors 905 in Mississauga. Tip-off for both games is set for 11 a.m.
