Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers season high four-game winning streak came to an end Sunday afternoon at Drillers Stadium. Northwest Arkansas got seven shutout innings from starting pitcher Matthew Kniginyzky and three hits from Jordan Parraz and defeated the Drillers 5-1.
The Naturals jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Jose Duarte walked and scored on double into the left field corner by Parraz.
In the fourth inning, the Naturals increased their lead to 4-0. Mario Lisson and Brian McFall began the inning with singles. Lisson then scored on Joe Dickerson's sacrifice fly to left. After Cody Stait singled, both he and McFall came home on a line drive single to center off the bat of Jose Duarte.
Parraz hit his first home run of the season in the top of the fifth to make it 5-0.
Kniginysky allowed only four hits in his seven scoreless frames. He walked one batter and struck out four in improving his record to 1-2.
The Drillers avoided the shutout by scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth off John Bale, who is on an injury-rehabilitation assignment from the Kansas City Royals. Anthony Jackson singled and then took second on a passed ball. Daniel Mayora brought Jackson home with a ground ball single to left.
Tulsa's starter Keith Wieser struck out five and surrendered five earned runs. The loss dropped his record to 1-3.
Xavier Cedeno relieved Weiser to begin the sixth and worked 2 2/3 scoreless frames.
Reliever Austin Chambliss made his home debut for the Drillers in the top of the eighth inning with the bases loaded and two outs. Chambliss, on the third pitch, forced a groundout to prevent the Naturals from extending the lead. He did not allow a run in 1 1/3 innings.
The Drillers will take on the Naturals again Monday night in game three of the four-game series in Drillers Stadium at 7:05. Tulsa's Esmil Rodgers (0-1, 4.62 ERA) will battle Blake Wood (1-1, 6.75 ERA) of Northwest Arkansas.
