Drillers Fall to RockHounds Before Sellout Crowd

The Tulsa Drillers opened a seven-game homestand Wednesday night with a 7-3 loss to Midland before a 4th of July sellout crowd of 8,017 at ONEOK Field. The RockHounds overturned an early Tulsa lead, scoring all seven of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Yusniel Diaz opened up the game's scoring in the bottom of the fourth. The centerfielder belted his fifth home run of the season to give the Drillers a 1-0 lead.
The RockHounds quickly erased their deficit in the top of the fifth off reliever Michael Johnson. With two outs and runners at the corners, Eli White lined a base hit into right field the brought home the tying run. Tyler Ramirez followed with a drive into the right field bullpens for his sixth home run of the year. The three-run blast put Midland in front 4-1.
Drew Jackson got one of the runs back in the bottom half of the fifth. Jackson singled with one out, stole second base and advanced to third when the throw skipped into centerfield. He came home with Tulsa's second run when Luke Raley delivered a two-out base hit. For Raley, it was his team-leading 39th run batted in.
The RockHounds added to their lead in the top of the sixth. Seth Brown led off with a base hit, and Tyler Marincov deposited his 14th home run to increase the Midland lead to 6-2. A bases-loaded walk later in the inning upped the margin to five runs.
D.J. Peters accounted for Tulsa's third run in the bottom of the sixth. The right fielder hit a towering drive deep into the Busch Terrace beyond the left field wall. The solo shot was the 17th home run of the year for Peters, tops in the Texas League.
WHAT YOU MISSED
*Raley and Peters each picked up a run batted in, leaving the duo tied for the team lead with 39 RBI each.
*Andrew Istler made just his second career minor league start on the mound for the Drillers. The right-hander was outstanding, allowing just one hit in 3.1 shutout innings. He was not involved in the decision.
*The Drillers announced a roster change on Wednesday afternoon. Relief pitcher Layne Somsen returned to the Drillers from Oklahoma City, and pitcher Parker Curry was placed on the Temporarily Inactive List.
*Stetson Allie pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the Drillers, hitting 101 m.p.h. on the stadium's radar gun.
UP NEXT
The Drillers and RockHounds will be back in action on Thursday with a doubleheader at ONEOK Field. The doubleheader became necessary when the two teams were rained out in Midland last Friday. The first game of the twinbill will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the second game starting no earlier than 7:05 p.m. Another large, holiday Fireworks Spectacular is scheduled for after the second game.
