Tulsa Drillers News Release

The Springfield Cardinals offense came to life Saturday night, erupting for a 11-4 win over the Tulsa Drillers. The two teams have now split the first two games of their four-game series in Southwest Missouri.

After Springfield took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Drillers went in front thanks to three unearned runs in the top of the second. Tulsa got singles from Darin Holcomb and Anthony Jackson and two errors from Springfield to take a 3-1 lead.

The lead did not last long, as the Cardinals erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third off Drillers starter Andy Graham to go back in front 6-3. The big blow came on a grand slam homer by Tyler Henley.

It remained that way until the seventh when Steven Hill belted a three-run homer to give the Cardinals a 9-3 advantage.

The Cardinals picked up 12 hits against 4 different Drillers pitchers. Henley and Hill each collected four runs batted in.

They added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth off Tulsa reliever Jonathan George.

Graham was charged with the loss after allowing eight hits and six runs in four innings of work.

Springfield starter Tyler Herron surrendered only two hits in seven innings of work in gaining the win.

Jose Gonzalez belted his first Double A homer in the top of the ninth for the Drillers to close out the scoring.

The two teams will play game three of their four-game series Sunday afternoon. Jhoulys Chacin will make the start for Tulsa against Trey Hearne of Springfield. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10PM at Hammons Field.
