Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced the signing of Drew Otten. Otten returns for his second season with the Mallards after recording 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points with 128 penalty minutes as a rookie.
Otten established himself as a fan favorite during his rookie campaign with his all out physical play. He ranked 13th amongst UHL rookies in scoring and second in the rookie ranks with 44 minor penalties. The gritty 6' 1", 215-pound winger played in 71 of the Mallards 76 contests and appeared in all three playoff games. Otten was held pointless in the post-season but recorded ten post-season penalty minutes.
Before joining the Mallards, the Minnetonka, Minnesota native played four seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. In 146 collegiate games, Otten recorded 30 goals and 39 assists for 69 points with 175 penalty minutes.
"It's a great place to play," said Otten. "I had a great experience last season with coach (Paul Gillis) and Howard (Cornfield). They put together winning teams, and I think they'll do it again this year."
"Drew exemplifies the type of physical player we want on our team this season," said Cornfield. "With a year under his belt, we feel he will be a presence."
The Mallards begin their tenth anniversary season this fall at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Season tickets are available via the Mallards ticket office at (309) 764-7825. For the latest Mallards news and ticket information, visit www.qcmallards.com.
