New York Dragons News Release

Following a thrilling 63-34 victory over the Grand Rapids Rampage on Saturday at the Nassau Coliseum, two key Dragons contributors were recognized by the AFL their outstanding efforts.

DB John Walker was named the Co-ADT Defensive Player of the Week after picking off three Rampage passes and returning one for a touchdown. Walker returned the three interceptions for a combined 53 yards. He also recorded 1.5 tackles and broke up two passes in the game. Walker increased his interception total to four - just one behind team leader DB Levy Brown, who has five on the season. Walker shared the honor with Georgia Force's DB Cam Newton.

"It was one of the first times this season that the defense really jelled. We all came together in one cohesive effort," said Walker. "I was fortunate to be the recipient of a great pass rush and a great secondary, which gave me an opportunity to disrupt passing lanes and get my hands on some passes."

WR/LB Chris Anthony was a key contributor on both sides of the ball on Saturday. For the offense, Anthony totaled 10 receptions for 92 yards and four touchdowns. All three totals were season highs. On the defensive side, Anthony helped keep the Rampage to a season-low 34 points, forcing one fumble in the process, which led to a Dragons touchdown.

"It's a tribute to the team and how we played. I'm just thankful to be able to be on the field and give the effort I gave," said Anthony.

Catch Walker and Anthony and the rest of the Dragons this Sunday at the Nassau Coliseum when they host the Columbus Destroyers at 3 pm in a key divisional match-up.
