Get To Know John Vaughn

April 9, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Orlando Predators News Release

What you know about John Vaughn is that he is the kicker for the Orlando Predators. You may also know that he graduated from Auburn University where he served as the kicker on the football team. Most fans of the Florida Gators know Vaughn from the night in 2006 when he kicked four field goals to help the Tigers defeat the eventual National Champions.

Now here is what you may not know...Vaughn's only notable nickname is "J.V." for his initials. He is an avid fan of the Italian food at Prozino's restaurant which he discovered while at Auburn. Vaughn's favorite movies are Snatch, Blow, and The Royal Tenenbaums.

When he is not kicking for the Predators, Vaughn enjoys spending time with his girlfriend Lauren Wilkins who is still in school at Auburn. He was born in Brentwood, Tennessee where he graduated from Brentwood Academy in 2003.

In college he majored in exercise science at Auburn where as the kicker for the football team he endured one of the craziest nights of his career. It was during his junior season in a game played at LSU where the Tigers enjoy one of the loudest venues in all of college football. Vaughn went 1 for 6 on his field goals that night, including the last one that hit the upright and would have tied the game in overtime.

"I learned everything I ever needed to know about being a kicker on that night," Vaughn said at the time. "That night will motivate me for the rest of my life, not just in kicking but everything that I do."

After that night, Vaughn went on to set records at Auburn including a 162 of 163 mark on his career extra points, which was third in SEC history. His senior year he was named All-SEC performer by Coaches, Associated Press, and Scout.com. Vaughn left Auburn as the school's All-Time leading scorer with 312 points; that also ranks him 12th in SEC history.

One of Vaughn's favorite quotes comes from the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off where actor Matthew Broderick declares, "Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it." The life of a kicker moves pretty fast too, in the AFL kickers are expected to adjust to the new uprights and kicking off around Jumbo Trons.

After his football playing days are over, Vaughn says he would like to work for a big company or get into coaching. While still on the field, the 23-year old is doing a great job with the Predators already having a game-winner under his belt.
