New York Dragons News Release
With training camp set to open next week, the New York Dragons have signed WR/DB DeShaun Dennis, who played against the Dragons last season as a member of division rival Philadelphia Soul.
The 5-10, 177-pound Dennis was signed by Philadelphia with a month remaining in the 2004 season and appeared in the Soul's final game, at the Nassau Coliseum against the Dragons. In that contest, he recorded 7.0 tackles and one pass break up on defense while recording one pass reception for nine yards on offense.
He began his arena league career in 2003 with the Richmond Speed of the af2. During that season, he recorded 54.5 tackles with five interceptions. Dennis was also proficient at returning kickoffs, averaging 21.3 yards per attempt.
A product of Delaware State University, the 25-year-old Dennis was a two-time Mid-Eastern Conference selection in 1999 and 2000. He finished his four-year collegiate career with 184 tackles, eight interceptions and 34 pass blocks. Dennis was named Male Athlete of the Year, which is an award given to the athlete with the most outstanding career at DSU during their senior season.
In another move, the Dragons have released WR/LB Jerome Leslie.
The Dragons kickoff their portion of the 2005 season at home on Super Bowl Sunday, February 6, 2005, at 1:00 pm against the Dallas Desperados.
