Dragons sign Leon Murray and Corey Jackson

October 11, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New York Dragons News Release

The New York Dragons announced today the signing of QB Leon Murray and DL Corey Jackson. Each team can carry 37 players on their roster heading into training camp and this brings the Dragons total up to 25. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Murray comes to the Dragons with four years experience in the Arena Football League. In 2003 and 2004, he played for the Georgia Force before moving to the Nashville Kats for the '05 and '06 seasons. In his career, he has totaled 755 completions of 1256 attempts for 9094 yards, 156 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.

"The signing of Leon Murray will definitely strengthen the QB position. I feel he is a very capable player and a seasoned AFL veteran quarterback who should provide great competition as far as the position is concerned, going into training camp and into the season," said Dragons head coach, Weylan Harding.

Jackson (6-6, 270) comes to the AFL after three seasons with the NFL, on the Cleveland Browns (2004-05) and the Denver Broncos practice squad (2006). Jackson also played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in the NFL Europe League where in 2004 he earned All-NFL Europe League honors and was named Defensive Player of the Year after recording 26 tackles, a team-high 9.5 sacks and four passes defended.

""With the recent free substitution rules implemented by the AFL, players like Corey Jackson become extremely important additions to any organization. As we have seen with players like Greg White of the Orlando Predators, there is a correlation between production in NFL Europe and the Arena League," said Chris Bauer, Director of Player Personnel. "I think our fan base will be excited about many of the new faces that will attend our 2007 training camp."
