DAYTON, OH - A traditional sign that baseball season is just around the corner in the Miami Valley is the Dayton Daily News / Dayton Dragons National Anthem Tryouts. Auditions for the 2016 season's national anthem performers will be Saturday, February 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mall at Fairfield Commons (Main Court).

The winners will perform the national anthem at Dragons games throughout the season, with the grand prize winner performing at Opening Day 2016 before the Dragons host the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field on Saturday, April 9 at 4 p.m.

The first 200 entrants who pre-registered for this event have received a scheduled tryout time. If one of our pre-registered performers is not present when their performance number comes up, or if we run ahead of schedule, we will pull performers from our standby list. To register as a standby performer you must come to the Saturday, February 27 tryouts at the Mall at Fairfield Commons. You will receive a standby number, and we will call this number when a spot becomes available. Standby performers are not guaranteed a chance to audition.

A panel of local citizens including WHIO-TV personalities, city officials and community leaders will be judging the event. The panel will make its selections based on voice quality, creative style, stage presence and appearance.

The event will be open to the public. Dragons mascots Heater and Gem will be in attendance and the Dragons Green Team will be performing skits. A Dayton Daily News kiosk will have representatives with information about newspaper subscription options.
