
Dragons Get by Gators in Double Overtime

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (February 27) âThe Columbus Riverdragons defeated the North Charleston Lowgators 106-100 in double-overtime on Thursday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Nate Green and Greg Stempin hit one three-pointer each in double-overtime to help the Dragons outscore the Lowgators 12-6 in the final five minutes. The Columbus victory was their second in a row, while North Charleston had their five-game win streak snapped.
Columbus coach Jeff Malone said, "We had some good play tonight. Our starters played well and then our bench came in and did a nice job. We have to get better with every game and our last two wins give us some confidence."
Down 82-80, Lowgators swingman Ime Udoka hit a game-tying jumper at the buzzer to end regulation and send the contest into overtime. Both teams battled to a 12-12 tie in the first extra period, making the score 94-94 after the first 45 minutes of basketball.
"We needed to execute better down the stretch. There were times we needed organization and a big shot, but we did not get it. We didn't play poorly but you have too play better to win a close game like that." said head coach Doug Marty said.
Nate Johnson led the way for Columbus (18-22) with 25 points. Tang Hamilton chipped in with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Udoka had his second consecutive double-double with 26 points and 11 boards to lead the Lowgators (22-19). Tierre Brown chipped in with 24 and 9 assists.
Columbus won the battle of the boards 55-53. Each team had four players with at least 7 rebounds. North Charleston was 19 of 13 from the free-throw line. Both teams were 39 of 89 from the field.
