New York Dragons News Release
Dragons DS Corey Johnson has been named the Arena Football League's Week 13 Defensive Player of the Week after leading the team to a 44-20 victory over the Dallas Desperados on May 1. The former All-AFL Rookie performer Johnson led the Dragons with 9.0 total tackles, one pass breakup and a team record-tying three interceptions.
The interception mark last set by Mike Furrey on May 18, 2002 at New Jersey has now occurred three times in Iowa/New York history. This is the first time the former Georgia Bulldog has earned an AFL weekly honor. The 5-9, 190-pound Johnson is in his seventh season in the AFL and has now recorded 13 interceptions for his career.
The Dragons return home for a match with division rival Carolina Cobras on Saturday night May 8. The Dragons defeated Carolina 57-41 earlier in the season. With a win on Saturday night, the Dragons record would move to 8-5 placing them three games over .500 for the first time since moving to New York. For tickets, call 1-866-AFL-TIXX.
