Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OHIO - The Dayton Dragons announced the following roster changes today:
Right-handed pitcher Jackson Stephens and infielder Brent Peterson have been promoted to Dayton from Billings.
Infielder Joe Terry has been promoted from Dayton to Bakersfield (California League).
Right-handed pitcher Pedro Diaz has been sent from Dayton to Billings (Pioneer League).
The Dragons roster currently stands at the Midwest League limit of 25 players.
Stephens, 19, will join the Dragons starting rotation and make his Midwest League debut on Friday night at Fifth Third Field vs. Lake County. He has spent the first 10 weeks of the 2013 season in the Reds extended spring training camp in Goodyear, Arizona. Stephens was the Reds 18th round draft pick in 2012 out of Oxford (Ala.) High School, where he led his team to the Alabama 6A state title as senior in 2012. He was selected Alabama 1st Team 6A All-State as both a junior in 2011 and a senior in 2012 when he posted a 14-1 record. Stephens also served as the starting quarterback on his high school football team, leading them to the state semi-finals. He signed a national letter of intent to play at University of Alabama before electing to sign with Reds. Stephens opened his professional career last summer with the Goodyear Reds in the Arizona League, going 1-1 with a 4.64 ERA in 20 relief appearances.
Peterson has spent most of this season with the Dragons but was sent to extended spring training last Thursday. He returns to the Dragons prior to the first game of the Billings season in the Pioneer League. He has played in 34 games for the Dragons this season, batting .227 with no home runs and five runs batted in.
Terry played in 27 games for the Dragons this season, batting .292 with one home run and 12 runs batted in.
Diaz pitched in 11 games for the Dragons this season including nine games as a starter. He posted a record of 1-6 with a 7.52 earned run average
