Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release
DORADOS HAVE RADIO AND TELEVISION BROADCAST HOME
ESPN RADIO 1240 AM AND TELEVISA SERVE AS BROADCAST HOME FOR DORADOS
HIDALGO, TX: March 24, 2004 â The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 (af2) have reached an agreement with ESPN Radio 1240 AM (KSOX) to serve as the radio flagship station and Televisa's XHAB Channel 7 to serve as the television home for Dorados football for the 2004 inaugural season.
The radio broadcasts will be in partnership with BMP Radio, with all 16 regular season contests airing live on ESPN Radio 1240 AM (KSOX). KSOX is a 24-hour sports radio station that airs ESPN Radio programming, UTPA Basketball, and returns the only local call-in sports show "Sportsline" with Tony Forina on Monday. The broadcasts will include a pre-game show and a brief post game show with insight from Dorados Head Coach Gary Gussman.
Televisa is the largest producer of Spanish language programming in the world and the largest Mexican television network in Mexico. Through a contract with Cox Communications, Televisa operates stations along the Texas-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo markets. Televisa Noreste (XHAB) Channel 7 in the Rio Grande Valley produces the games and will air all home games except the regular season home finale on July 24th against Arkansas. XHAB was the first station in the Valley to carry a television signal and it is the only Mexico based station to carry arena football in North America.
On the world wide web, the Dorados plan to air all games through their official website (www.doradosfootball.com) live on-line. Home games at the Dodge Arena will also be televised over the internet on a subscription basis through an agreement between the af2 and Live Sports Network, which is the same company that oversees CHLTV.COM.
Chris Due will serve as the play-by-play announcer on home televised broadcasts and on all radio broadcasts on the road. Due, who handles the broadcasts for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, worked with the Arena Football League's Fort Worth Calvary in 1994, but this will be his first season to broadcast arena football. He last worked football in college with the University of Tulsa and University of Central Oklahoma Radio Networks. Televisa's Jeffrey Saocedo, host of the weekly sports show "A Nivel de Cancha", will serve as the sideline reporter for the televised broadcasts. The play-by-play position for home radio and color commentator for televised contests are currently being finalized.
Individual and season tickets are currently on sale and may be purchased by stopping by the Dodge Arena offices (2600 N. 10th St. in Hidalgo, Tx) or contacting them by phone at 956-843-7825. The Dorados kick-off their inaugural campaign April 3rd against the Laredo Law. Additional ticket information and corporate opportunities are available by contacting the Dorados offices at 956-843-7825 or visit the Dorados online at www.doradosfootball.com.
