Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

Hidalgo, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Dorados used a team-record 116 rushing yards and took advantage of five Oklahoma City turnovers as they defeated the Yard Dawgz 53-36 victory Saturday night at the Dodge Arena.

Rio put points on the board at the 9:43 mark in the first when Reggie Hargrove recovered a fumble by Yard Dawgz quarterback Evan Gray in the end zone to mark the only scoring in the first quarter.

The Dorados took a 19-9 lead into the half after second quarter scores by Jermaine Carpenter (23-yard reception) and Travis McAlpine (33-yard interception return).

Oklahoma City was able to come within four points of the Dorados at the 11:45 mark in the third quarter on a Freddie Rollins one-yard running TD, but that is the closest they would get. Rio's Pierre Thomas caught a five-yard pass from Travis Cole at 6:20 of the third, followed by a Robert May eight-yard run at 4:08 to pull the Dorados up 32-22 going into the final frame.

Rio increased their lead by 31 with just 6:35 left in the game after an Anthony Chambers 17-yard TD reception, but the Yard Dawgz made a final push. They scored at 3:55 with Evan Gray connecting on a pass to Keaton Graham and then with 50 seconds left on Travis Seaton's 49-yard fumble return.

Rio's Robert May set a team record with 75 rushing yards on six carries, helping the team set records for most rushes (18) and yards (116)

Rio travels to Lubbock to face the Renegades next Saturday, and return home June 7 to take on the Texas Copperheads.
