Donnie Scott returns for second go around as Dayton skipper

Dayton, OH - A familiar face will be back in the dugout for 2007 as Donnie Scott, the winningest manager in franchise history returns to the Miami Valley for his second stint as Dragons skipper. Scott's first term with the Dragons was from 2001-2003, in which the club qualified for the Midwest Playoffs twice ('01 and '02) and posted a 216-202 regular season record.

Under Scott, the 2001 team set franchise marks for the most wins in a season, 82 and the most wins in a half of baseball with 41 (in each half) on route to winning the Eastern Division first half crown. Scott and the Dragons Field Staff; Hitting Coach Brian Conley and Pitching Coach Bill Maloney comprised the winning field staff for the Eastern Division All-Star team, in the game hosted by the Dragons at Fifth Third Field. In 2002, the Dragons ripped off a franchise record 13 consecutive wins compiling a 73-67 overall record, earning a second half wild card birth in the post season. In 2003, promotions and injuries took its toll on the Dragons in the second half of the season as the team finished at 61-78 overall and missed qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

Scott returns to Dayton after spending the 2004 season as a coach with the GCL Reds. In 2005, Donnie served as the Reds Minor League Catching Coordinator and in 2006 he was the manager of the Sarasota Reds in the Florida State League. With Scott at the helm in '06, Sarasota posted a 66-73 overall record. The Reds had a 36-34 mark in the second half, a six win improvement from the first half of the season.

A former second round draft choice of the Texas Rangers (1979), Scott played parts of four different seasons in the Major Leagues. The former catcher played in the "Bigs" in 1983 and 1984 with the Rangers, 1985 with Seattle and 1990 with Cincinnati, appearing in 173 major league games during his career. Following his playing days, Donnie began his coaching career with the Reds in 1992, serving as the manager of the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League. In five seasons (1992-95, '97) with the Mustangs, Scott's teams won Pioneer League Championships on four occasions. In 1993 he was named the Pioneer League Manager of the year. Along with his managerial experience Donnie has worked with the Reds as the minor league field coordinator (1996, 1998-99) and camp coordinator (2000).

Earlier in the off season the Reds named Doug Bair as the Pitching Coach and Darren Bragg as the Hitting Coach for the Dragons 2007 season. With the appointment of Scott as Dragons Manager, the '07 field staff brings a combined 29 years of major league playing experience to the dugout.

The Dragons will open up the 2007 Midwest League season at Fifth Third Field on Thursday, April 5th versus the West Michigan Whitecaps, the defending MWL champions and affiliate of the American League Champion Detroit Tigers. The first pitch on opening night is scheduled for 7:05 PM, with the game being broadcasted live on WING AM 1410 ESPN Radio and at www.daytondragons.com Opening night 2007 will be televised live in the Miami Valley on "Dragons TV" Time Warner Television Cable Channel 25.
