Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (March 18, 2010) - The Milwaukee Wave of Hope will collect new and gently used children's books at the U.S. Cellular Arena on Sunday, April 4 at the MISL Championship Game, presented by the Journal Sentinel.
Donate a book when you come through the doors and Wave of Hope will present the books to a pair of worthy Southeastern Wisconsin charities: America SCORES Milwaukee, which empowers students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression and service learning; and the Next Door Foundation, whose programs build reading skills, improve school readiness, develop leadership and advance economic self-sufficiency among its families.
Everyone who donates a book receives a soccer ball-styled plastic Easter egg, which will contain a voucher for Wave merchandise or some other premium prize.
Wave of Hope, the Milwaukee Wave's 501 (c) 3 organization, aims to introduce and advance the sport of soccer and its physical wellness, educational and social benefits to low-income children in Wisconsin. In just its first year, Wave of Hope has already raised more than $100,000 for a variety of organizations.
The Wave (13-6) clinched the regular season title last Sunday with a victory over Monterrey, and earned the right to host the title contest. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. Easter Sunday at the U.S. Cellular Arena.
Family 4-Packs, featuring four Premier level tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for just $59, are available for the championship game.
The Wave end the regular season on Saturday with the annual Fan Appreciation Day at 6 p.m. Philadelphia is the opponent. Prizes will be given away the entire day, and all players participate in a 30-minute autograph session on the field following the game. They will be joined by Kate Markgraf, standout with the U.S. women's national team and technical director of the Wave girls-only soccer camps this summer.
