Dogs Swept by Monarchs

The Chicago Dogs dropped the finale of their three-game series against the Kansas City Monarchs, 11-3, at Impact Field on Sunday afternoon.
Kansas City wasted no time taking control of the game when Austin Callahan took the second pitch of the game over the right field wall to put the Monarchs up 1-0. Grant Richardson followed in the second inning with a two-run home run to score Saul Garza and make it 3-0. Callahan added two more runs in the top of the fourth with an RBI single that scored Richardson and J.D. Davis. Luken Baker followed with a three-run home run to score Callahan and Sahid Valenzuela. The five-run fourth inning gave Kansas City an 8-0 lead.
Aaron Altherr got Chicago on the board in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single that drove in Jacob Maiben and Ethan Wilder to make it 8-2. Gio DiGiacomo added another run in the sixth with an infield single that scored Altherr.
Kansas City added some insurance runs when they made it 9-3 after Trevor Boone was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth. Callahan added another run in the ninth with an RBI fielder's choice to score Davis. Valenzuela made it 11-3 with an RBI single to score Brady Lindsly and put the game out of reach.
Chicago will travel to Winnipeg to take on the Goldeyes in a doubleheader on Tuesday, August 4. The first game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
