Richmond RiverDogs News Release

Richmond, VA - It was a terrific day for the Richmond RiverDogs' organization yesterday at the 22nd Annual Carytown Watermelon Festival, as members of the Dogs' staff spent most of a thirteen-hour day entertaining fans of all ages.

"It was a privilege just to be a part of such a fun event," said Richmond Head Coach and General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "We've gone to the Big Brother-Big Sister Duck Races, the Capital One Kids Day for the Richmond Boys and Girls Club, booster club meetings, picnics, and all kinds of other events. But we wouldn't be lucky enough to go to outings like these if not for the terrific support of our fans."

Sunday's event was just another big step in what has already been a busy few weeks for Richmond. Training camp is under two months away, and that means there are several available opportunities still remaining for the Dogs to go out and play.

"Once the season starts and we're traveling all over the world, it won't be as easy to get out with Razz and the guys in the community as often as we'd like," Nichols said. "That's why it's extra important to get out in Richmond now. We want fans to know that the Dogs are here, our bark will be loud and we're not going anywhere other than to the postseason. But, before that, we want to see more of Richmond."

The RiverDogs hope to run around each and every weekend before it comes time to drop the puck for the season opener against eastern-rival Adirondack on October 21st. In fact, the Dogs have already sniffed out a couple of terrific opportunities and, for starters, are trying to paw their way into a Richmond Braves game this Saturday night. The Braves are the famed Triple-AAA affiliate of baseball's Atlanta Braves. We will, of course, be sure to provide information on this and many other events as soon as plans are finalized.
