RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond RiverDogs battled back from a 3-1 deficit to force a shootout and win 4-3 over the Flint Generals in front of 3,599 at the Richmond Coliseum. The Generals jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of Matt Elich goals before Warren Cooper got the RiverDogs on the board at the 1:56 mark of the second period. Flint's Terry Marchant scored at 19:55 in the 2nd to put Flint back into the lead at 19:55. The RiverDogs came out fired up in the 3rd after a wild melee at the end of the 2nd period with goals from Mike Oliveira and Cooper's second of the night. In the shootout, Oliveira got the only goal to give the RiverDog's their 12th win of the season.

The second period ended with RiverDogs goaltender Doug Groenestege jawing with a few of the Generals players and before long both teams milled around center ice. Some pushing and shoving led to Flint's Simon Rizk and Richmond's Matt Goody dropping the mitts and the "gift-giving" was on. Three other fights took place and more jawing, with General Manager/Head Coach Robbie S. Nichols and Flint's Bench Boss Bobby Reynolds and Equipment Manager Jim Carey in the middle of it all. When the smoke cleared, eight players were given fighting majors and game misconducts. In total, 33 penalties were called totaling 160 minutes, 81 to Flint and 79 to Richmond. Team records for Penalty Minutes in game (81), total Penalty Minutes (160), total Penalty Minutes by Opponent (81) and most penalty minutes in period by both teams (136) and most Penalty Minutes in Period by Richmond (69).

The RiverDogs will now take a few days off for Christmas before they head on the road to face Danbury in the first of three games between the two rivals beginning on Wednesday night. The RiverDogs return home on Friday, December 30 to face the Trashers at 7:35 pm.
