Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs welcomed Team USA into "The Swamp" on Monday night, falling to the collegiate all-stars by a final score of 11-6.
Drasen Johnson (Illinois) and A.J. Gaura (Austin Peay) split the game on the hill for Fayetteville combining for just four earned runs and seven strikeouts against the premiere collegiate talent in the country.
Team USA jumped out to an early 9-0 lead after the top of the third, with defensive errors by Fayetteville aiding the scoring effort for the visitors.
The Dogs struck back in the third, however, as Andrew Parker (Towson) scored on a Zach Gawrych (Tampa) RBI base-hit after Parker led off the inning with a single. John Howell added a two-run single in the fourth frame, scoring Mike Tauchman (Bradley) and Sal Giardina (Lynn) who recorded back-to-back singles to start the inning.
Team USA plated a run in the third, and two in the sixth, making it 11-1 through seven innings.
Fayetteville scored three runs in the eighth after Team USA walked the bases loaded to start the inning, making it 11-6, but couldn't mount the comeback as that score proved final.
The next SwampDogs home game is on Tuesday, June 26th, where it's Fayetteville Chamber Night. Fans can meet their favorite businesses in the Fayetteville Chamber while enjoying Taco Bell Taco Tuesday.
The SwampDogs urge fans to purchase their tickets for the July 3rd Fireworks Extravaganza as soon as possible, as only a limited number of seats remain for the game.
