Dodgers Star Manny Ramirez to Play Against JetHawks This Weekend

(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks pitching staff will face stiff competition this weekend as they travel to San Bernardino. The Inland Empire 66ers and the Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that star slugger Manny Ramirez will be joining the 66ers for an injury rehabilitation assignment that will begin Saturday night when the JetHawks travel to Arrowhead Credit Union Park to open a three-game series.
Ramirez, the 2004 World Series MVP with the Boston Red Sox, has been on the disabled list with a right hamstring strain. Dodgers manager Joe Torre says the rehab assignment will begin Saturday night and last as many games as Ramirez deems necessary to regain his form. It is the third time Ramirez has spent time with the 66ers since joining the Dodgers in 2008, but the first time he will face the JetHawks.
So far this season, Ramirez is hitting .322 with eight home runs and 39 RBI for Los Angeles. He is amongst baseball's all-time home run leaders, with 554 homers over an 18-year Major League career.
Ramirez will not be the only Dodgers player with the 66ers during the series. Catcher Brad Ausmus, who spent ten seasons playing for the Houston Astros, is also expected to play for Inland Empire. A former All-Star himself (in 1999), Ausmus is nursing back and foot injuries that have limited him to just one game with the Dodgers this year.
