Bakersfield Blitz News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The countdown is on for the Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 to the ultimate display of athletic prowess and hard-driving competition - the first annual Blitz Dodgeball Tournament!

The tournament will take place at the Rabobank Arena on Saturday, April 2nd, the same day the Blitz kickoff their 2005 West Division Title defense against the Central Valley Coyotes. It starts at noon and will run until 4:00 p.m. right on the arena floor, with each team participating in a double-elimination bracket. The champion will be decided at halftime of the Blitz game with the two remaining squads squaring off in front of the thousands in attendance - with the roar of the crowd, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

All teams - men's, women's or mixed - are welcome to participate with the only requirement being an age limit of 15 years old and above. Six players are required to field a team and each team can have no more than ten players on their roster. Cost of the tournament is $125 per team and includes your choice of eight (8) EndZone tickets or 16 Terrace tickets to that night's Blitz vs. Coyotes match. Participating teams can purchase additional tickets for $5 - $12 per seat. Trophies for the top finishers will be furnished by Kern Trophies.

"This is the ultimate dodgeball showdown," said Blitz Inside Sales Manager Charles "Cha-Chi" Ramos, former Southwestern Division Dodgeball Supreme Champion from the classic 2003 international tournament. "The champions from this tournament will be remembered forever in the annals of Bakersfield dodgeball history. They will be immortalized in the stories told by our children's children."

To register a team in the 2005 Blitz Dodgeball Tournament, contact Charles Ramos at the Blitz office at 716-BLITZ (2548), ext. 218. The deadline to register is March 30th and only the first 32 teams to reserve a spot will participate.

The Blitz 2005 schedule includes eight games at home and eight on the road, starting with Opening Night on Saturday, April 2nd against Central Valley. Friday Night Football will hit the Rabobank Arena this season, as the remainder of the home schedule will consist of Friday night match-ups. The Blitz will compete in the National Conference West Division along with the Central Valley Coyotes, Rio Grande Valley Dorados, San Diego Riptide and the Tulsa Talons.
