Dirt Dawgs Take One in Extras

July 31, 2014 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release

Thanks to a walk-off home run by Mike Rizzitello (Dowling) in the 12th inning the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs beat the Worcester Bravehearts by a 7-6 score. The Dirt Dawgs put on a clinic for the fans at Doyle field as they pounded 4 HR's in their victory. Leading the charge was Dirt Dawg Kurtis White (Franklin Pierce) who went 3-6 with 2 HR's and 3 RBI's.

The game was highly competitive throughout as the Dirt Dawgs were able to jump out to an early lead thanks to a Mike Corin (URI) home run. However, the Bravehearts were quick to battle back tying the game up at three thanks to a three run third inning.

The Dirt Dawgs headed into the ninth with a 6-4 lead, but were unable to hold that lead and were lucky to escape the ninth knotted at 6. After three excellent innings from Jason Harper in which he retired nine straight Bravehearts, striking out six (Franklin Pierce) the Dirt Dawgs were finally able to capture the run they needed thanks to a blast from Mike Rizzitello, his third of the year.

Picking up the win for the Dirt Dawgs was Jason Harper as Anthony Perry got the loss for the Bravehearts. The Dirt Dawgs were able to keep their playoff hopes alive as they chase that final wild card spot in the FCBL playoffs. The team travels to face the Brockton Rox tomorrow for a 7 pm first pitch. The Dirt Dawgs next home game will be this Saturday at 5:35pm as they take on the Pittsfield Suns.
