Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Wednesday, July 3, 2013) The unlucky streak continues for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs as they suffered another close, one-run loss to the Torrington Titans 4-3.
The game was tied 3-3 heading into the ninth when Torrington's Micheal Odenwaelder (Amherst) broke the tie with a solo homerun to left off Wachusett's Dalton Keck (Lipscomb).
The Dirt Dawgs (5-13) threated in the ninth, getting a runner all the way to third, but Alex Disanto (SUNY Old Westbury) was able to gather himself and get the final batter to ground out to first.
Offensively for the Dirt Dawgs, catcher Joe Coyne (St. Joesph's) led the way with two hits and a run scored and third baseman Tyler McVicar (Elon) added a solo homerun in the first.
Wachusett starter Joey Gaouette (William & Mary) pitched a gutsy five innings, allowing four hits, three runs, and striking out three. He took a no decision on the night.
For the Titans (9-11), relief pitcher Hunter Engelhart (SC Buefort) earned the win on the night, moving to 2-1.
The Dirt Dawgs are on the road tomorrow as they travel to Torrington looking for revenge against the Titans. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
