Dirt Dawgs Fall to Old Orchard Beach

July 8, 2012 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Old Orchard Beach News Release

For the third straight games, one bad inning was the difference in a Dirt Dawg loss. The Dirt Dawgs started off strong, as they scored in the 2nd off of a Davidson Peguero solo shot to right field. They struck again in the 3rd when Vincent Sharkey singled in Matt Lerner.

Joe Swindells pitched great for the Dirt Dawgs. He went 7 innings and allowed only five hits. When he left the game his team was up 2-1. Erik Jacobsen came into relief to start the 8th, and ran into trouble. After allowing a leadoff double, he seemed to have calmed down as he got consecutive fly outs. But then he gave up a single which platted in a run to tie the game. The very next pitch he gave up a 2-run home run. This gave Old Orchard a 4-2 lead. The Dirt Dawgs were unable to score again, and that was the difference.

This is the third straight game one inning cost the team. On Friday night, the Dirt Dawgs had a 3-0 lead entering the 6th inning. In the 6th they gave up 6 runs, and went on to lose 7-3. On Saturday the Dawgs again had a 3-0 lead, this time entering the 4th inning. In the 4th they allowed 4 runs, and went on to lose 6-3. Tonight it was a 3-run 8th that cost them in a 2-4 loss.

Tomorrow night the Dirt Dawgs are back at Doyle as they look to play a complete game, and pick up their first win since June 29th. They take on The North Shore Navigators and first pitch is at 6:35.
