AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club announced today they have reached agreements with three players they offered contracts during the Indy Pro Showcase held in Ft. The Dillas selected LHP Dane Little, RHP Brent Buffa, and OF Travis Hobbs who were among 44 players to be tendered professional contracts from various pro teams including the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox.
Dane Little becomes the first-ever player from north of the U.S. border to play for the Amarillo Dillas. A native of Windsor, Ontario Canada, Little attended and played collegiate baseball at Wayne State University, just outside of Detroit Michigan, where he finished his four-year career tied with Kyle Hill for sixth all-time at WSU with 50 games pitched while finishing 9th in strikeout/walk ratio (1.97), 11th in victories (14), 12th in starts (29), 13th in strikeouts (140), 14th in innings pitched (191.2) and 25th in earned run average (4.04). Last year, Little was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team, GLIAC All-Academic Team and was chosen as Wayne State's Top Pitcher after finishing with a 6-2 record and the fifth-best ERA in the conference (3.31). An education graduate Little was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, achieving a term GPA of 3.5 or higher, in 7 of his 8 semesters at WSU.
A native of Chesterfield Missouri, Buffa attended and played collegiate baseball at Millsaps College in Jackson Mississippi, playing only one season for the Majors posting a 7-2 record with four complete games and 2.98 ERA in 16 appearances and 81.2 total innings, in 2007. Prior to Millsaps, Buffa was a standout pitcher at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri, where he received First Team All-Central Region honors in 2005 and Second Team All-Central Region honors in 2006 after posting a 20-3 record with a 1.86 and 2.81 ERA, respectively. In 2009, Buffa pitched for the Canada Miners in the first-ever professional summer league that was operated by the Golden League of Professional Baseball, in Tucson Arizona. Buffa appeared in six games for the Miners making three starts posting a 3-0 record striking out 19 and walking just 8 batters while compiling a 2.59 ERA, in 24.1 innings of work. During the off-season, the Millsaps graduate plans to continue his work as the assistant pitching coach for Millsaps College which is a position held since 2008.
Travis (Kyle) Hobbs, a native of Dade City Florida, attended and played collegiate baseball at St. Leo University where last year he played in 55 games batting.339 with 12 doubles and 5 triples to go along with 15 home runs while driving in 41 runs in 224 plate appearances. In his junior season with the Lions, Hobbs batted a team and career-high.377 to go along with 60 hits, 38 runs scored, 23 RBI, 10 doubles, one triple, six home runs and 12 walks in 159 at bats, including 20 multi-hit and five multi-RBI games. Hobbs was slated to join the Dillas last year but those plans were changed when he sustained a broken hand during the last two weeks of the season. St. Leo University is the alma mater of Dillas field manager Brady Bogart.
