AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club announced today they have officially begun their host family search for the 2010 season. Ever wished you could have dinner with a major leaguer like Derek Jeter, Craig Biggio or even Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan? Well to be honest we can't make that happen but host a Dillas player this summer and you just might be sitting down with the next big league superstar, you never know.
Every year twenty-two very talented players, from all over the world, will move to Amarillo and become a part of the Texas Panhandle community during the Dillas short four-month season. Now just imagine, if you will, living in a city for the very first time where you didn't know a soul, how nice would it be if you had somewhere to call home that gave you a sense of normalcy and a family atmosphere, that is truly what becoming a host family provides these young men.
For decades now, host families have played an integral part to the overall experience of young men trying to achieve their dreams of playing in the big leagues. The opportunity to get to know a Dillas player on a personal level, while giving them a home away from their home, will provide both the player and host family with memories that could last a lifetime. So, if you love baseball and the idea of sharing in a young man's dream, then hosting a player just might be the perfect fit for your family. Being a host family is more than just providing a room, bed and laundry facilities, it's the opportunity to have a long-lasting impact on a young man's future so that if he gets called up to the big leagues you get a call from him to come see his first at-bat or first-pitch, in a major league uniform.
In exchange for your generosity in providing a room, bed, and laundry facilities your family receives many perks including season tickets, invitation to special events such as our annual 1st Pitch and World Series Parties, and who knows, maybe even free lessons for your children from your host player. ULB Opening Day 2010 is Thursday, May 27 when the Dillas travel to San Angelo for a two-game series against the Colts. The reigning United League Champions will open their home schedule Saturday, May 29, when the Colts follow the Dillas back to Amarillo to play a four-game series. Season tickets are still available and single-game tickets officially go on-sale Saturday, May 1st.
