Dillas Re-Acquire Lefty From Shreveport-Bossier

Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club announced today they have re-acquired left-handed pitcher Ronald Lowe from the Shreveport-Bossier Captains of the American Association, in exchange for a player to be named later. Lowe joins outfielder Stephen Douglas as members of the 2008 United League Championship team to return for a second stint in Amarillo.

Douglas, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 21st round of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft where he spent two seasons playing for Auburn (Low A) and Lansing (A) in the New York Penn League and Midwest League, respectively. After his release from Toronto, Lowe signed with Amarillo as a free agent in May 2008 and played only one season for the Dillas appearing in 16 games making 14 starts while posting a record of 6-1 striking out 84 batters against just 38 free passes with an earned run average of 3.90, in 87.2 innings of work. Last year as a Captain, he made 19 starts finishing with a record 7-11 with going along with a complete game and an earned run average of 5.70, in 102.2 innings.

The addition of Lowe to the starting rotation is just another piece of the growing changes to the Dillas pitching staff for this year. Turnover in Independent baseball is not uncommon and for manager Brady Bogart is just part of the game much like the winds to the Texas Panhandle. "Ronnie (Lowe) was outstanding for us (Dillas) as a starter in 2008 and played a major role in our success", Bogart said. "To expect the same level of performance from him this year would be unfair but certainly we know he is a capable starter who can eat-up some innings, glad to have him back in a Dillas' uniform".

At a quick glance one might think that Lowe struggled a bit last year in Shreveport but what they won't see is that his ability didn't change as much as that, the American Association is a league of proven-veterans. But even given that, overall Lowe's outings a year ago were pretty solid which will bring some much-needed experience to the Dillas rotation.

ULB Opening Day 2010 is Thursday, May 27 when the Dillas travel to San Angelo for a two-game series against the Colts. The reigning United League Champions will open their home schedule Saturday, May 29, when the Colts follow the Dillas back to Amarillo to play a four-game series. Season tickets are still available and single-game tickets officially go on-sale the week of May 3rd.
