Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club announced today that they have traded INF Eric Brown to the Normal Cornbelters, of the Frontier League, in exchange for a player to be named later.
A native of Lake Havasu City (AZ), Brown attended and played collegiate baseball at nearby Wayland Baptist University in Plainview (TX). Signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Dillas on July 15, 2009, Brown appeared in 41 games batting.248 driving in 15 runs in 141 plate appearances.
Not known for his power at the plate, the slender quick-footed second baseman hit only one home run during the regular season but he produced the biggest hit of the season, when his grand slam during the third game of the playoffs, against the Edinburg Road Runners, propelled the Dillas into the United League Championship against the San Angelo Colts.
There were several defining moments during the Dillas championship run last year that eventually led them to a second-consecutive United League title but Brown's grand slam ranks among the top, according to manager Brady Bogart.
"When you look back at how the season unfolded there were plenty of moments that were important to getting us to another league championship, but Eric's (Brown) grand slam and walk-off bases loaded walk were two of biggest", Bogart said. "He worked his tail off from the first day we signed him and we wish him all the best in Normal".
The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club is a charter member of United League Baseball, a Professional Independent League, with six teams playing in Texas. ULB teams are located in Amarillo, Coastal Bend, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, and San Angelo.
