
Dillard promoted, Norman to step in

Former big-league shortstop Nelson Norman has been named the new hitting coach for the Swing of the Quad Cities. Norman will fill the position previously held by Steve Dillard, who was promoted to High-A Palm Beach by the Cardinals' organization.
Norman will be the third hitting coach in as many years for the Swing. Keith Mitchell held the position for a year in 2005 before being promoted to manager. Norman, 48, spent six years in the major league. He debuted with the Texas Rangers in 1978, just days shy of his 20th birthday. Over his career Norman also played for Pittsburgh and Montreal and accrued a .221 batting average.
Originally from San Pedro de Marcoris, Dominican Republic, Norman has spent the past three years managing in the Dominican Summer League. Other coaching positions have included serving as an infield coach and the Latin infield coordinator for the Boston Red Sox organization.
