Mike DiFelice hit a two-out, go-ahead three-run double in the seventh, helping the Binghamton Mets to a 7-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at NYSEG Stadium Sunday. The B-Mets have taken the first three games in their four-game set with the Fisher Cats and have won four of five on the homestand.
For the second straight day, New Hampshire (36-44) scored first. Chip Cannon led off by doubling off Robert Paulk before moving to third on a flyout and scoring on Ron Davenport's single to center. However, the B-Mets (37-44) countered in the bottom half of the frame, with Andy Wilson reaching on a one-out single before moving to second on Jay Caligiuri's groundout. Carlos Gomez drove in Wilson with a triple to left, tying the score at one.
After Danny Solano drove in Curtis Thigpen with a single off Orlando Roman (3-2) in the sixth for a 2-1 New Hampshire lead, the B-Mets were able to rally against the Fisher Cats' bullpen. Danny Hill began the seventh by walking Caligiuri before Gomez reached with a bunt single. After Ambiorex Concepcion got on, thanks to a fielder's choice that forced out Caligiuri at third, Ray Navarrete hit a ground ball off the bare hand of Hill (1-4). New Hampshire was still able to get an out at second, but Hill left the ballgame in favor of Rodney Ormond, who walked Corey Ragsdale, loading the bases. DiFelice then doubled down the leftfield line, scoring Gomez, Navarrete and Ragsdale for a 4-2 Binghamton lead.
The B-Mets put the game away in the eighth, loading the bases with one out when Wilson and Caligiuri walked and Gomez was hit by a pitch. Up came Concepcion, who cleared the bases with a three-run double of his own for the game's final runs.
Monday, the B-Mets wrap up their four-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Southpaw Rich Rundles (0-1, 5.06) will start for Binghamton against Mike MacDonald (7-4, 3.54) of New Hampshire. Game time is 7:00 from NYSEG Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
